A 46-year-old man has allegedly murdered his wife in cold blood before hanging himself.
Phillip Chepng’eny supposedly killed his wife Emily Chebwogen, 31, before using a cloth to hang himself.
The incident has shaken the village after the couple’s bodies were found lying in a pool of blood in their home by the neighbours. The two bodies were found lying on the floor; adjacent to each with the woman’s body having several knife stabs all over her body.
Solai chief inspector Shadrack Kyalo said that after inspecting the house, they discovered that the quarrel might have started from their matrimonial bed since blood stains were found on the bed sheets and all over the bedroom floor.
“After assessing the house, we have discovered that the couple might have started their struggle in the bedroom. A knife was also discovered next to Chepng’eny’s wife suggesting he might have used it to stab his wife before committing suicide,” he said.
Kyalo added that they are yet to establish what transpired leading to Chepng’eny killing his wife before committing suicide. The deceased had four children.
The couple’s nine-year-old son narrated how his father pointed a knife at him before chasing him away.
“My dad pointed a knife at me and told me he would kill me. He then chased me away to go and call my sister and that is when he killed mum,” said the young boy.
He added that when they came back, they found their parents had locked themselves inside the room.
Robert Mutai, a neighbour said he was shocked after learning about the death. He said that the couple has been living in peace and there is no time they have ever quarrelled. He said that he is the one who raised the alarm and called the neighbours after he found the two had locked themselves inside before breaking the door and found them lying on the floor.
Mutai added that Chepng’eny’s wife had been living with her parents for sometimes before they re-united.
Kyalo asked whoever might have information about the couple’s death to forward it to them to help with investigations.
